Gratitude Practice

Let's start by taking a moment to practice gratitude.
  • What challenge have you overcome recently and what are you grateful to have learned from it?

  • What makes you proud? How do you show someone that you are proud of them?

The Recipient

In 2020, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Sensory toys help children with autism relax, focus, and calm down to a scenario or event. It helps them grasp objects with decreased fear and discomfort, ultimately helping them play naturally. Furthermore, sensory toys help develop social learning skills like negotiating, planning, and sharing

The Reason

This kit is designed with several sensory activities and toys to benefit children with autism.

Unpack the Box

  • Take everything out of the box.
  • Lay everything out so you can find what you need to build the kit.

Find the Kynd Card

This is for you to spread extra kyndness to someone in your own life.  Consider writing a note to a friend, loved one, or colleague that you are grateful for.  Address the note and send it in the mail or give it to someone in person.

DO NOT include this in the finished kit.

Write a Note to the Recipient

1. Find the following items:
  • Blank card and matching envelope
  • Enclosed materials such as crayons, markers, stickers
2. Write your letter and decorate the card.
  • Use the enclosed materials to decorate the card.
    • Express your encouragement and include a hopeful message.
    • Decorate the front and the inside of the card.
      • Helpful Tips:
        • Do not include a date or year on the letter.
        • Avoid politics completely and religion in excess.
          * Can’t think of what to write, draw a picture!
3. Decorate the envelope.
  • Use the enclosed materials to decorate the envelope that will hold your card.
    • Make it colorful and fun. Decorate the front and back of the envelope.
4. Put the completed card in the envelope you decorated.
  • Include the Kynd Code sheet with the card.

DIY Jigsaw Puzzle

1. Find the following items:
  • Blank Jigsaw Puzzle
  • Small white envelope
  • Markers, crayons, pen, etc.
2. Assemble the puzzle

4. Prepare the small white envelope to hold the puzzle.
  • This envelope will hold the completed puzzle.
  • Decorate one side of the small white envelope with a picture or message.
  • Use the other side of the small white envelope to explain how to assemble the puzzle and what it will look like when it is done.

DIY Sensory Tube

1. Find the following items:
  • Sensory tube
  • Glitter
  • Food dye
  • Glue
    *You will also need water
2. Fill the clear sensory tube with as much glitter as you’d like.
3. Next, put in 3-5 drops of food coloring. The more food coloring you add, the harder it will be to see the glitter so be careful if you have a darker color!
4. Carefully fill the rest of the tube up with water.
5. Take the glue and put one teaspoon (or best estimate) of glue into the tube on top of the glitter and food coloring. The glue is what makes the glitter move in the tube.
6. Seal the tube tightly then give it a good shake!

Decorate the Box

Use the enclosed materials to decorate the box the kit came it. Make this fun and colorful. Get creative! This is how the recipient will receive their final kit.
