Gratitude Practice

Let's start by taking a moment to practice gratitude.
  • What is something good that happened to you this week that you are grateful for?

  • What is something you’ve learned recently that you are grateful for?

The Reason

In February of this year, Benbrook Elementary in Houston, Texas endured unreasonably freezing temperatures which resulted in losing control of the power supply leaving millions without access to electricity.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, students were already failing multiple classes due to virtual learning. This natural disaster caused a great increase in anxiety and depression for this student population and their families.

The Recipient

Prepare 5 disaster relief kits for elementary age kids from Benbrook Elementary to help them cope with the recent natural disasters affecting their area.

Unpack the Box

  • Take everything out of the box.
  • Lay everything out so you can find what you need to build the kit.

Find the Kynd Card

This is for you to spread extra kyndness to someone in your own life. Consider writing a note to a friend, loved one, or colleague that you are grateful for. Address the note and send it in the mail or give it to someone in person.

DO NOT include this in the finished kit.

Write a Note to the Recipient

1. Find the following items:
  • Blank cards and matching envelopes.
  • Enclosed materials such as crayons, markers, stickers.
2. Write your letter and decorate the cards.
  • Use the enclosed materials to decorate the cards.
    • Express your encouragement and include a hopeful message.
    • Decorate the front and the inside of the cards.
      • Helpful Tips:
        • Do not include a date or year on the letter.
        • Avoid politics completely and religion in excess.
          * Can’t think of what to write, draw a picture!
3. Decorate the envelopes.
  • Use the enclosed materials to decorate the envelopes that will hold your card.
    • Make it colorful and fun. Decorate the front and back of the envelopes.
4. Put the completed cards in the envelopes you decorated.

Decorate the Canvas Bag

1. Find the following items:
  • Canvas bags
  • Sharpies
  • 2. Decorate the canvas bags
    • Use the permanent markers to decorate the canvas bags.
      • Make the bag fun and colorful.
        * Can’t think of what to write, draw a picture!

Surprise Kyndness
