Emily's Light

Mental Wellness

“About 20 % of mothers in experience clinical depression after childbirth.” – World Health Organization

Project Helping’s programming has proven benefit on mental wellness. Our Emily’s Light program delivers our programming specifically to moms to help them build mental wellness through volunteer experiences and peer connection.

The Emily’s Light program serves moms with community, connection, and resources to build mental wellness. We host meaningful, social volunteer experiences designed for moms. After volunteering, moms participate in a community hour to connect with each other and build a community of peers while learning about mental well-being resources.

Through our partners at Arts and Minds, we provide complimentary childcare and art based programming for kids while the moms participate in the wellness experience.

Arts & Minds is a Movement and Creative Arts Program offering classes, enrichment, and camps to children. Each Class is designed to incorporate both of these concepts to give your children a full mind and body experience.

In Memory Of

The Emily’s Light program was designed and launched in memory of Emily Roebken.

Emily was a young Arvada mother who took her life by suicide in 2017 while pregnant with her second child. The Roebken family has given their blessing and support to launch the program that will prevent the loss of mothers to antepartum and postpartum depression and anxiety.

Emily’s Light volunteer experiences are designed specifically for moms. They are meaningful, social, and accessible volunteer experiences designed to amplify the mental wellness benefits of volunteering. The experiences are short and built to help moms build community while serving others.

After each volunteer experience, Project Helping hosts a community hour for moms. This time is designed to allow moms to connect with each other, discuss the issues they are facing, and find peer support.

The Emily’s Light program is designed to give moms meaningful volunteer experiences that build mental wellness. In addition, moms have the opportunity to create a community of peers that they can rely on for support throughout motherhood. This community will reduce isolation, improve mental wellness, and create a peer support system for moms at all stages of motherhood.

To make participation easy, Project Helping provides childcare during the mom’s experiences. Through our partners at Arts and Minds, we provide educational, engaging programming for children so moms can focus on their mental wellness and building community.
