Frequently Asked Questions

Reach out if we can help with anything.

A: While each event is different, there are some things that are the same for each event. Every event is hands-on. We have chosen events where you will see the significance of your work as you do it.

Every event is a group event, meaning you will volunteer with people who have signed up through Project Helping.

Our first priority is the volunteer. We work hard to ensure that every event creates a memorable and impactful experience for the volunteer. You will spend time with amazing people while also making difference in the community in a fun, engaging environment.

A: Yes! Check out our testimonials page to hear from those who have done it before.

A: When you volunteer, a physiological reaction happens. Fantastic chemicals associated with happiness are released in the brain. Volunteering regularly – once a month, for example – is proven to have tremendous longterm mental wellness benefits. It also reduces stress, improves sleep, and boosts physical wellness! Read more on our Benefits of Volunteering page.

A: It’s easy…for you anyway! We carefully select only the most engaging, hands-on volunteer projects. Then we make them ridiculously easy to sign up for. Once you’ve signed up, we will get you all the details before the event. You just have to show up. We’ve taken care of everything else. Find a volunteer event.

A: Anyone! We have had over 2000 people volunteer with us. Anyone and everyone is welcome. Our volunteers are all different, except for one fact – they all want to make an impact in the community and experience volunteering’s wellness benefits.

A: All of our volunteer opportunities are listed on our volunteer page. Once you are there, you can sort and filter in a variety of ways to make it easy to find what you’re looking for. Find an opportunity to get involved!

A: The first step is to filter the events by location and times that are convenient for you. The rest is all about what you’re interested in. When in doubt, try a few. We offer a variety of causes and projects. They are all easy to sign up for and you can try one at a time. Get started with one that looks awesome and try them all!

A: We carefully vet our nonprofit partners to ensure we provide the most hands-on, social and easy to join volunteer projects available. Some nonprofit partners come to us when they need help and in some cases, we seek specific partners based on feedback from our volunteers.

A: Your time commitment depends on the event you choose. While most of our events are recurring, you can sign up for one at a time. Your commitment depends on which event you sign up for and how many you choose. Our events are all 2-4 hours in length and available at a variety of times throughout the week. Check out our event calendar for more details.

A: We are always looking to add new markets. If you would like Project Helping in your community, let us know HERE. If you have interest in being a volunteer event leader, check this out.

A: You can register as far out as you would like, or even just before the event. However, our events fill up fast, so it’s best to register as soon as you can. If an event is full, you can join the waiting list. We will contact you if spots open.

A: Once you find a volunteer experience to sign up for, click on the join event button at the top of the page. If you already have an account, log in. If you don’t, you can create one so it’s even faster and easier next time!

A: We do the majority of the registration work to make it incredibly simple to sign up. Depending on the event, We will ask for name, email, mobile phone, and potentially your age. That’s it!  It’s super simple!

A: Our first priority is that our volunteers have a tremendous experience. You register and we make sure to plan a phenomenal day!

A: Some events are restricted to a minimum age. Each one is different. If there is an age restriction, we will list it in the event details.

A: We try to choose events that do not require specific skills to participate. If there are special requirements, they will be listed in the event details.

A: We would love to have your friends join you. You can choose how many people will be coming when you register.

A: Our Founder, Justin Kruger, started Project Helping based on his own mental wellness experience. He found that volunteering greatly improved his well-being. After much trial and error, he identified crucial elements needed to promote wellness within volunteer experiences. Then, he created Project Helping in early 2014! Read Justin’s story.

A: Project Helping started organizing and leading volunteer events in 2010.

A: If you can’t make it to an event, just email [email protected] to let us know. For more information, see our Cancellation Policy.
