Volunteer Experience
What to expect when you volunteer
While each event is different, every Project Helping event is hands-on — you'll see the significance of your work as you do it. Every event is a group experience, meaning you'll volunteer alongside others who have signed up through Project Helping. Our first priority is you, the volunteer. We work hard to ensure every event creates a memorable, impactful experience. You'll spend time with amazing people while making a difference in the community in a fun, engaging environment.
Yes! Check out our testimonials page to hear directly from those who have volunteered with us before.
When you volunteer, a physiological reaction happens — chemicals associated with happiness are released in the brain. Volunteering regularly (once a month, for example) is proven to have tremendous long-term mental wellness benefits. It also reduces stress, improves sleep, and boosts physical wellness. Learn more on our Benefits of Volunteering page.
Anyone and everyone! Our community includes individuals, families, small groups, and corporate teams. All are welcome — our volunteers are diverse in every way, united by one thing: they want to make an impact in the community while experiencing the wellness benefits of volunteering.
We intentionally choose events that do not require specific skills. If a particular event does have special requirements, they will be clearly listed in the event details before you sign up.
Signing Up
How to find and register for events
It's simple! We carefully select only the most engaging, hands-on volunteer projects and make them incredibly easy to sign up for. Once you register, we'll send you all the event details in advance. You just show up — we've taken care of everything else. Find a volunteer event →
All volunteer opportunities are listed on our volunteer page, where you can sort and filter by location, time, cause, and more. Find an opportunity to get involved →
Start by filtering events by location and times that work for your schedule. From there, it's all about what interests you. We offer a variety of causes and project types — all easy to join. When in doubt, try a few! Each event is its own standalone experience.
Once you find an event, click the "Join Event" button on the event page. If you already have an account, log in. If not, you can create one — it makes future sign-ups even faster and easier.
We keep it simple! Depending on the event, we'll ask for your name, email, mobile phone number, and potentially your age. That's it.
Our top priority is making sure every volunteer has a phenomenal experience. When you register, we can plan ahead to make sure your day is well-organized, impactful, and memorable.
Absolutely! We'd love to have your whole group join. When you register, simply indicate how many people will be attending with you.
Logistics & Details
Event timing, location, and policies
Our events are all 2–4 hours in length, available at a variety of times throughout the week. While many events are recurring, you can sign up for just one at a time — there's no ongoing commitment required. View our event calendar →
Some events have a minimum age requirement. Each event is different — if there is an age restriction, it will be listed in the event details before you sign up.
You can register as far out as you'd like, or even just before the event. However, our events fill up quickly, so registering early is recommended. If an event is full, you can join the waitlist — we'll contact you if a spot opens up.
We're always looking to expand to new markets. In the meantime, our Kynd Kits let you volunteer from anywhere — we ship everything you need right to you. If you're interested in bringing Project Helping to your area, reach out to us and let us know.
If you can't make it, please email [email protected] to let us know. For full details, see our Cancellation Policy.
About Project Helping
Our story, mission, and how we work
We carefully vet our nonprofit partners to ensure we provide the most hands-on, social, and accessible volunteer projects available. Some nonprofit partners come to us when they need help — in other cases, we seek specific partners based on feedback from our volunteers.
Our Founder, Justin Kruger, started Project Helping based on his own mental wellness journey. He found that volunteering greatly improved his well-being. After much trial and error, he identified the crucial elements needed to promote wellness within volunteer experiences and officially launched Project Helping in early 2014. Read Justin's story →
Yes! We can provide documentation for community service hours, including court-mandated or graduation requirements. Get started here.
Project Helping officially launched in 2014 and has been organizing and leading volunteer experiences for over a decade. We've grown from a local Denver initiative into a national network serving hundreds of thousands of volunteers.
