Gratitude Practice

Let's start by taking a moment to practice gratitude.
  • Name one thing that brings you comfort.
  • What is a positive memory of a childhood blanket or toy that you have?

The Recipient

This kit was built with Project Linus where their mission is to provide new, handmade blankets to children in need. These blankets are collected and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug.

The Reason

Since 1995 Project Linus has delivered over 8,601,140 blankets to kids in need. Make a blanket and kit to help provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Step 1: Unpack the Box

  • Take everything out of the box
  • Lay everything out in groups sorted by item type

Step 2: Find the Kynd Card

This is for you to spread extra kyndness to someone in your own life.  Consider writing a note to a friend, loved one, or colleague that you are grateful for.  Address the note and send it in the mail or give it to someone in person.

DO NOT include this in the finished kit.

Step 3: Find your DIY Activities

  • Set up a customization table and complete the following DIY activities.
  • Have all of your decorating supplies ready. Crayons, pens, markers, stickers, etc.
  • The DIY activities in this X kit are writing a note to the recipient and the fidget blanket

Write a Note to the Recipient

1. Find the following items:
  • Branded half page – see example below
  • Enclosed materials such as crayons, markers, stickers
2. Write an encouraging letter
  • Use the enclosed materials to decorate the card.
    • Express your encouragement and include a hopeful message.
      • Helpful Tips:
        • Do not include a date or year on the letter.
        • Avoid politics and religion completely.
        • Can’t think of what to write, draw a picture!
        • Include your Kynd Code.

Fidget Blanket

1. Find the following items:
  • 1.5 yards of fleece
  • 4 inch by 4 inch template
  • Scissors, not included (make sure your cuts are clean, even, and straight with no frayed edges)
2. Make a fidget blanket
    • VERY IMPORTANT! Trim off selvage edges (with printing) and make the fabric square.
    • Cut a 4 inch square from each corner of the fleece. Discard the 4 inch square.
    • Cut 1inch wide x 4 inches long fringe pieces around the blanket.
    • Cut a tiny hole at the top of each fringe piece.
    • Feed the end of the fringe through the back of the slit and pull through to create a neat and secure fringe.
3. Roll the finished blanket
  • Fold the blanket into fourths
  • Then roll the blanket
  • Use the ribbon provided to tie in a bow around the blanket to keep it rolled
  •

Step 4: Delivery Options

If you are delivering in bulk or shipping the kits back to Kynd Kits:
  • Let attendees know where to leave their completed kits.
  • Remind them how they will get to the people in need.
If individuals are delivering them to someone in need:
  • Remind attendees they are responsible for taking the kits with them and delivering them.
  • Encourage them to take pictures or post their delivery on KyndHub for the group to see.

Pack the Kit

  • Pack all of the materials into the decorated tote bag and put it back into the enclosed poly bag.
  • Make sure the Kynd Code is included.
  • Add any optional items you would like.
