My name is Justin Kruger. I am the Project Helping founder. The inspiration for Project Helping came from my own struggles with depression. For as long as I can remember, I have had depression. I have always been afraid to talk about it.
Through meeting my wife, I became more involved in volunteerism and it became a regular part of my life. It amazed me when I started to realize the positive effects it had on my outlook and mental health. The more I volunteered, the better I felt. The better I felt, the more I wanted to share my experience with others. So, that is why I’ve created Project Helping. My goal is to share the amazing effects of volunteerism with other people who have been impacted by depression.
By organizing regular, group volunteer events, we give anyone impacted by depression the opportunity to create a feeling of purpose through volunteerism. In addition, by being part of a group of people who empathize with the symptoms of depression. Due to our understanding, we create a feeling of belonging and community. This allows us to heal through helping others.
We use this blog to share stories from our volunteers and start to share the power of volunteerism in coping with depression.
