375 Back to School Backpack Kits Built at Family Service Day

June 12, 2026 Family Service Day - Back to School Backpack Kits

Volunteers built 375 Back to School Backpack Kits during an in-person Family Service Day. Each kit was assembled to help a student head into the school year with the supplies they need.

How it worked

The team gathered in person and ran the build self-hosted, using Project Helping’s facilitator guide and the step-by-step instructions included in every kit. Each volunteer built an individual kit from their own boxed materials, working through the backpack contents piece by piece. A Project Helping program manager set up the program ahead of time, confirmed the details, and arranged for the finished kits to ship back with prepaid labels once the build was done. That meant the team could focus on the build itself instead of logistics.

Once complete, the 375 Back to School Backpack Kits shipped back to Project Helping, where they will be delivered to a nonprofit in Project Helping’s recipient network. Each backpack gives a student starting the school year the supplies to walk in ready. Teams looking to run a similar day of service, whether for back to school, mental health, or another cause, can start their own Kynd Kit program the same way.
