Allstate brought together 50 volunteers to build 75 Back to School Backpack kits, supporting students through PENCIL.
How it worked
This was an in-person, self-hosted build. Volunteers assembled individual kits, each person putting together a complete backpack from their own kit materials. A Project Helping program manager set up the program and confirmed details ahead of the event, and the kits arrived with everything needed along with printed instructions, so the team could run the session on their own using the facilitator guide. Once the backpacks were finished, Allstate distributed them directly within their own community.
The finished backpacks went to students supported by PENCIL, giving them school supplies to start the year ready to learn. Teams looking to run a similar day of building for students can put together a program just as easily.
