Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Builds Backpacks for Kids

July 23, 2026 9:30am - 11:00am ET Simpson Gumpertz & Heger

Forty volunteers from Simpson Gumpertz & Heger built 60 Back to School Backpacks for kids in need of school supplies. The team gathered in person for a self-hosted build that ran on a production line, with each station adding a different item to the backpacks.

How it worked

Project Helping shipped the bulk kit materials to the team ahead of the event, along with facilitator instructions for running a self-hosted build. The team played a Project Helping intro video to kick things off, then set up their own assembly line to build all 60 backpacks. The kits included custom touches specific to the company. Project Helping had already matched the program with a nonprofit partner, so the finished backpacks went directly from the event to that organization, with no extra shipping or coordination needed from the team.

The backpacks were built for and delivered to Cradles to Crayons, giving kids the school supplies they need to start the year ready to learn. If your team is looking for a hands-on way to give back, a Kynd Kit build like this one is a straightforward place to start.
