I truly enjoy engaging individuals, nonprofits, faith organizations, schools, businesses, and governments to ensure that the communities they serve are vibrant, resilient, inclusive and healthy. I relish weaving staff and volunteers into all phases of creating the environment where they can be successful and thrive. Many of my most rewarding career experiences have been in response to patients, clients, and community members in times of disasters. This includes responding to a tornado hit in Holly, CO in 2007, flooding of Boulder County in 2013, health crises that hit individuals, finding homes for homeless animals, ensuring older adults and others were able to receive COVID-19 vaccines, and helping to end isolation of people from their communities. One of my most satisfying volunteer experiences was being a wildlife rehabilitator working with many species of animals.
My personal favorites were snakes and bats. If I could choose two superpowers they would be the power to heal and the ability to converse with animals. A quote that speaks to me now: At my age, in this hierarchical time, people often ask me if I’m ‘passing the torch’. I explain that I’m keeping my torch, thank you very much – and I’m using it to Light the Torches of Others. Because only if each of us has a torch will there be enough light.” Gloria Steinem My partner and I live in the mountains of Boulder County, CO with our daughters, who we hope among many things, grow up to be volunteers, philanthropists and humanitarians.
