Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a process for helping people after they experience a traumatic event. The goal is to provide safety, stability and resources after they have experienced a life-changing episode. By providing PFA , PFA increases people’s resiliency by allowing a safe place to talk about their trauma, fears or symptoms associated with mental illness. PFA is not therapy. PFA provides help grounding people, providing resources and a chance to reconnect with friends, family and/or other caregivers.
So often in our busy lives, we ask questions with the intent to gather more information or solve problems. We have limited time and we want to walk away from a conversation with a sense of how we might take action to promote growth or ease challenges someone else may be facing. There is value in this approach AND it doesn’t always support in empowering the relationship. In this workshop, we’ll experientially explore how shifting our focus when listening actually influences the questions we ask and the connection/trust we build.
